Work Day 3/31/14

We started our day off with a daily briefing at 7:00am led by Team Leader Chloe Hypes, she went over the mission of the day, logistics and the roles of everybody. Today the team would be split into two groups. Maddy, Chloe, Emma and Jeremy would all go out on the boat and continue to search with the Deep Trekker and Blake, Luke, Skeeter and Karly would all stay back to work on the ROV and catch up with blog and Facebook posts.

With the day all planned out we split into two groups and headed out to our separate tasks. While the search team headed out on the boat the rest of the team started to work on the ROV and fight with the internet. The team was able to narrow the issue down to a video feed issue in the down camera. They worked together to get all the tech-flex off the tether and then took off all the splices they did in the class.

As they were working on the tether the rest of the team walked in with some news. The Deep Trekker stopped working. By this time it was around 11am and we set a limit that if our ROV wasn’t working by one that we would not go out on the boat. With that goal in mind the entire team started to help. We needed to make sure that our camera feed connections would stay together so we requested the help of Scripss. Mr. Nicholas went down to Scripps and asked for help. Scripps was able to give the team a splicing kit and also direction on how to use it. With that information the team got back to work.

By 1:15pm the team was still working. At that point we decided to call off the boat and driver. The ROV needed more work and if we rushed we were bound to make more mistakes. While the girls got out of the guy’s way by shopping the boys finished up with the ROV. When the girls returned from dinner at Bem Erii the boys had the ROV all fixed and put away. The boys went out to dinner at the Drop Off which gave them some time to relax.

Today was a long and tiring day but it ended a success, the ROV working. Tomorrow we are doing the Battle of Peleliu tour. It will give our team some time to relax and enjoy all Palau has to offer.
