Work Day 4/2/14

Today we started with our daily briefing which included both our BentProp observers and news that Blake and Emma would not be on the boat. They were going to the elementary school with Mr. Nicholas and Mrs. Zemke to prepare for the next days activities. After the briefing the team split up and went to there separate missions.

The part of the team that was going out on the boat collected all the GoPros and DVR's and headed to the marina. Once at the marina the engineering team went to test the ROV and a few of a marketing team members went up to Drop Off to try to upload a few things.

Once the ROV was tested and checked we loaded up the boat, we were also able to bring the Deep Trekker out as well.We started the day at a easy, shallow dive so we could test our ROV and make sure all the new connections were working. With the ROV working well we went to our first target, Milkcrate.

Our ROV over a Japanese Zero

It took the navigator and boat captain a little while to anchor the boat in an area close enough to the target, but they soon got a good spot. The team set up and deployed the ROV. The ROV wasn't in the water but a few minutes before the team realized something was off. They pulled the ROV in and tried to troubleshoot the issue. At the same time as the engineering team was troubleshooting our ROV the marketing team was unpacking and setting up the Deep Trekker. Within a few minutes the engineers realized they couldn't fix this problem on the boat and then all attention was on the Deep Trekker. The Deep Trekker was working great until it reached around 35 meters. At this point the pilot lost camera angle control and then shortly after that she lost thruster control. The team tried to troubleshoot on the boat but they had no luck, so they reluctantly headed back to the marina.

At the marina the team unloaded both the Deeo Trekker and ROV. The engineer's believed the issue was in the ESC's so they were prepared to reprogram them. Before reprogramming they took quick break to eat lunch. While eating lunch the ROV apparently fixed itself. When they went back into the marina to try to fix it the problem had already solved itself. With a little brainstorming the team came up with the issue being the ROV overheating, thankfully an easy fix. Since our ROV was working again we loaded the boat back up and headed back out to Milkcrate.

With the ROV cooled down and working we were able to deploy it and search for around an hour and a half with little to no issues. We ran the ROV until we had no time left then returned to the dock. We debriefed on the boat, un-loaded the boat and put the ROV to bed then returned to our hotel.

. Emma and Blake said they had a really good time helping at the school. They both wanted to return the next day when the activities would actually be taking place. The team all ended the night with showers and food, again
